Composting Maturation Box
Composting Maturation Box
Designed by local compost innovator Tim in August 2018, The Brighton Bin has become a trusted staple of community composting across the city. Since then, he has built and installed over 140 bins on 60 sites throughout Brighton & Hove.
These bins, maintained by dedicated community volunteers, can be found thriving in public verges, parks, gardens, churchyards, regency squares, and conservation areas. To make it easier for others to follow suit, Tim formalised the design and created a detailed set of build instructions, saving other groups time and effort when setting up their own compost hubs.
The Brighton Bin’s modular design is not only cost-effective, but also robust, hardwearing, and easy to maintain and transport. Built to last, it has a proven track record in diverse public settings.
Fully accepted by Brighton & Hove City Council, the bin design also qualifies for an Environment Agency T23 exemption for Aerobic In-Vessel Composting of plant tissue waste — making it a practical and regulation-ready solution for serious community composters.
Join the movement and build a bin that’s already transforming soil, communities, and local ecosystems.
