Giant Earthworm Membership (East Sussex only)
This membership is open to all those who would prefer to make their own compost in Brighton – Available for just 4 members of every local compost tumbler. We’ll show you the ropes of using our composters and your subscripton enables us to keep them maintained throughout the year.
You supply and clean your own container, but the composting carbon is supplied ready for you to use with the tumblers and you can collect up to 80 litres of compost a year from the compost station.
We currently have just a few available spaces left in Brighton, at the Saunders Park composting station and edible forest garden.
We envision many more complete community compost stations throughout Brighton and Hove and are looking to get funding for more in 2024.

Become a Giant Earthworm
You’ll learn how to make complete compost and have plenty for your local growing needs. We’ll keep the carbon supply topped up and service the compost station to make it easy for you and you’ll become part of the local group that monitor the local compost hubs together.
For the system to work, we ask for one hour of your time a month to help us with:
Turning the compost drums
Emptying the compost drums
Checking on them to make sure the C:N ratio and moisture levels are correct, and adding more dry material if not
Moving the compost short distances to the earthworm bays to mature
What you get in return
Between March and April, you can take up to 100 litres of our complete compost for your own gardening or food growing needs.
This can be collected from the nearest compost hub during community gatherings annually. Every four months, we’ll get togethers to make light work of sifting, turning and best utilising the community compost.
